Duduzane Zuma found not guilty of culpable homicide charge

Duduzane Zuma, the son of former president Jacob Zuma, has been found not guilty of the charge of culpable homicide in the Randburg Magistrate's Court.

Zuma was on trial after Phumzile Dube died in February 2014 when Zuma's car crashed into a taxi in which she was travelling.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

While delivering his judgment on Friday, Magistrate Tebogo Thupaatlase said the state failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

 

ANC backtracks on Motlanthe appointment to head probe into formation of political parties

The ANC has backtracked on the appointment of former president Kgalema Motlanthe to head an investigation into the formation of smaller parties ahead of May 8 national elections.

The governing party said Motlanthe was no longer part of the investigating team, which was announced in June.

In announcing the investigation last month, the party said the terms of reference had been finalised and the team was expected to complete its work within two months.

 

And, UN secretary-general lauds Mozambique’s 'moral authority' in wake of deadly cyclones

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has lauded what he describes as Mozambique’s “undeniable moral authority” following the deadly cyclones which brought disaster on Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi earlier this year.

Mozambique bore the brunt of the death and destruction caused by cyclones Idai and Kenneth with more than two-million Mozambicans affected. The overall death toll in all three countries surpassed 1 000 people.

Guterres this moral authority lay with the “extraordinarily courageous” people who had contributed nothing to the global warming inexorably linked to the cyclones but who, however, had been the main victims of the deadly weather.
