EFF calls on Public Protector to step down

The EFF has called on Busisiwe Mkhwebane to "do the honourable thing" and step down as Public Protector.

The party said in a statement yesterday that her recent responding affidavit to the court challenge mainly by the South African Reserve Bank, she conceded that she was wrong on her remedial action regarding a constitutional amendment.

The EFF said Mkhwebane should know that the remedial actions of the Public Protector are binding.

ANC wants your medical aid tax rebates to fund national health insurance

The ANC wants the current tax rebates to individuals on medical aids to be scrapped and the money used to fund the National Health Insurance.

This is one of the key proposals of the ANC policy conference that ended last Wednesday at Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

It is estimated that R22-billion is paid back to tax payers every year, but Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi wants that money to be redirected and used as money for the NHI.

NC pushes ahead with plan to reduce number of provinces

The ANC is pushing full steam ahead with the reconfiguration of provinces to be reduced to six instead of nine despite an outcry from opposition parties.

The ANC policy conference called for a presidential commission to be set up, and for its work to be completed before the party's elective conference in December.

National executive committee member Obed Bapela said the commission would look into the powers, functions and number of provinces.
