ANC says Zandile Gumede remains on special leave, no decision on her fate yet

The eThekwini municipality will have to wait a bit longer to find out if the embattled Zandile Gumede will be returning to her mayoral post

The provincial ANC has not yet reached a decision on her fate, despite her special leave ending this week.

Gumede is out on R50 000 bail after she was arrested for fraud and corruption relating to a R208-million waste removal tender.

ANC provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli said the special leave will be extended and the status quo will remain while the party continued to work on a resolution.

National minimum wage not the jobs poison pundits feared

Minister of Employment and Labour Thulas Nxesi has said the employment market has taken well to the National Minimum Wage since it was signed into law, with only 7% of employers in the country not complying.

Nxesi was speaking ahead of his first Budget Vote as Employment and Labour Minister.

President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law in November last year, with the expectation that it would lift the income of millions of workers to above R3700 per month.

ANC votes for Tshwane budget, but closes door on partnership with DA

The ANC in Tshwane has no desire to partner with either the DA or the EFF, proudly declaring that it is able to get its own way as things stand.

Last week the EFF announced it would no longer vote with the DA, after it refused to give the red berets the mayoral position.

In March, EFF leader Julius Malema boldly stated that his party would hold Tshwane's mayoral chain after the May 2019 general elections but last week he admitted the DA refused a "power sharing" proposal.
