Makhura says Gauteng government awaits lifestyle audits

MECs and officials in the Gauteng provincial government are ready for lifestyle audits, Premier David Makhura has revealed in his state of the province address.

The multi-disciplinary task team on life style audits are being finalised by national government and will soon be established.

President Cyril Ramaphosa called for lifestyle audits on public servants in his 2018 state of the nation address. The audits for ministers and civil servants were meant to encourage disclosure, especially on business interests, and help stop the rampant corruption in the public sector.

Makhura said his government would exercise strict austerity measures to contain costs, and will not tolerate poor performance.

 

ANC withdraws convicted fraudster's nomination to chair Parliament's basic education committee

The African National Congress has withdrawn the nomination of convicted fraudster Zukisa Faku for chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education.

Faku, a former mayor of Buffalo City, was convicted on nine counts of fraud relating to the use of her official credit card, and sentenced to three years' house arrest and community service in 2016, while she was an ANC MP. She apparently stayed on as MP pending an appeals process.

In the days after the announcement, NGO Equal Education campaigned to have Faku's nomination withdrawn.

 

And, Magashule prepares to take legal action over claims he's linked to ATM

ANC secretary general Ace Magashule is set on going after those linking him to the establishment of political party, the African Transformation Movement. 

Some have alleged that the party has links to former president Jacob Zuma and Magashule, who is the former president’s long-time ally.

Magashule and the ATM appear to be ready to explore legal means to make the matter go away.
