Inquiry into Jiba and Mrwebi's fitness to hold office begins

The Justice Mokgoro Inquiry into the fitness of advocates Nomgcobo Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi to hold office is expected to have its first hearing today in Centurion.

The first witness to take the stand is current Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Silas Ramaite, followed by Advocate Chris Jordaan.

President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended both Jiba and Mrwebi in October 2018 pending the outcome of the inquiry led by justice of the Constitutional Court Yvonne Mokgoro.

Jiba is the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions and Mrwebi the Special Director of Public Prosecutions.

South Africa turned down Zimbabwe’s request for $1.2-billion loan in December

South Africa turned down a request from its southern African neighbour Zimbabwe for a $1.2-billion loan in December, a spokesperson for the finance ministry said today.

National Treasury spokesperson Jabulani Sikhakhane said South Africa doesn't have that kind of money.

Zimbabwe was hit by anti-government protests last week after a hike in fuel prices stoked anger over an economic crisis.

ANC distances itself ahead of more revelations expected at State capture inquiry

While the ANC continues to pledge support for the commission of inquiry into State capture, it says it will not comment on some of its leaders expected to be implicated this week.

A news agency reported earlier that South Africans can expect more damning revelations from former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi when he continues with his testimony at the commission of inquiry, headed by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo on Monday.

This is in relation the company, now known as African Global Operation's relationships with former president Jacob Zuma and some of his allies, like minister Nomvula Mokonyane, former South African Airways board chairperson Dudu Myeni and suspended crime boss Nomgcobo Jiba.
