Mkhwebane says Zondo commission should be given limited extension,

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane believes the State capture inquiry must be granted an extension for a "prescribed minimal period".

Mkhwebane said this in an affidavit in the application by the commission's chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to have its lifespan extended from March 2020 to December 2020. 

The Public Protector is the second respondent of eight, including President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Economic Freedom Fighters, in the matter. 

 

Mbeki says De Klerk told him he wasn't aware apartheid had been declared a crime against humanity

Former president Thabo Mbeki has come out and said that apartheid's last president FW De Klerk told him that he was not aware of United Nation's declaration that apartheid was a crime against humanity. 

De Klerk has come under fire following his statement that he believed apartheid was not a crime against humanity

Mbeki had said he would be sharing the UN document with De Klerk to enlighten him on the matter.

 

No load-shedding planned for Monday

Eskom says it is not planning to implement power cuts on Monday, after it replenished its emergency reserves of water and diesel over the weekend. 

This comes after the power utility halted stage 2 load-shedding ahead of schedule at 9 pm on Sunday.

The cash-strapped utility has warned of an increased likelihood of power cuts over the next 18 months as it conducts maintenance on its fleet of ageing power plants.
