Malema and Zuma to meet today

Former president Jacob Zuma and Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema's meeting over tea is set to take place on Friday.

The meeting was originally punted for the weekend, but the facilitator, Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina, confirmed this morning that he was booked on the next plane to Durban for the meeting.

Zuma became the centre of controversy this week when he said in a statement that he would disregard an order by the Constitutional Court to appear before the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture because he had an issue with how it was constituted.

Stalwarts ask ANC to distance itself from Zuma’s conduct

Stalwarts and veterans of the ruling African National Congress on Friday labelled former President Jacob Zuma’s refusal to appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture as  “brazen and shameless”.

They expressed confidence that they represented the vast majority of ANC members and said they were disturbed by Zuma’s decision to defy a Constitutional Court order that required him to appear before the commission.

The stalwarts and veterans urged the ANC to distance itself from Zuma’s conduct and ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule’s recent comments in defence of Zuma, in which he also said that the Constitution was not sacrosanct.

WHO's COVAX initiative aims to start shipping 90-million Covid-19 vaccine doses to Africa in Feb

The World Health Organization has said its COVAX initiative aims to start shipping nearly 90-million Covid-19 vaccine doses to Africa in February.

About 320 000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have been allocated to four African countries including South Africa.

The roll-out of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine is subject to the vaccine being listed for emergency use by the WHO. The organization is currently reviewing the vaccine and the outcome of the review is expected soon.
