Mkhize accused of unlawful, improper conduct for his role in Digital Vibes

The Special Investigating Unit has accused former health minister Zweli Mkhize of unlawful and improper conduct and wants his family to repay R4-million which they allegedly benefited from as a result of the awarding of a communications contract.

News reports say the SIU filed papers with the Special Tribunal on Thursday, seeking to recover R150-million, which the national Department of Health allegedly paid to a company called Digital Vibes in terms of the contract.

Reports say the SIU said Mkhize had pressured health department director-general Malebona Matsoso to approve the awarding of the contract to Digital Vibes, a company linked to Mkhize’s former advisor and former secretary.

 

Zuma refuses to be examined by NPA doctors

Former president Jacob Zuma has refused to be examined by doctors appointed by the National Prosecuting Authority.

His foundation says he is tired of his claims of ill-health being treated with distrust.

Earlier this month, and with the full agreement of Zuma’s advocate Dali Mpofu, KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg Judge Piet Koen ordered that the State may grant a medical practitioner of its choice to examine Zuma to assess his ability to stand trial for corruption and for that doctor to be a witness, if necessary.

But Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi has now accused the State of "second guessing" the medical report produced by the military doctors responsible for the former president’s care – as well as the care of all other heads of state – by seeking to have him examined by their own doctors.

 

And, Petrol price to increase by 4c and diesel price to decrease by up to 15.22c

Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has announced the adjustment of fuel prices, with effect from September 1, with petrol prices to increase and diesel prices to decrease.

The price for 93 unleaded petrol and lead replacement petrol will increase by 4c/ℓ, while the price of 95 unleaded and LRP will also increase by 4c/ℓ.

Diesel (0.05% sulphur) will decrease by 15.22c/ℓ and diesel (0.005% sulphur) by 14.22c/ℓ.

Moreover, wholesale illuminating paraffin will decrease by 15c/ℓ.

The maximum liquefied petroleum gas retail price will increase by 94c/kg.
