Vaccination for 18 and over opens Friday

In an effort to increase the worrying low numbers in vaccination centers across the country, Cabinet has approved the rollout of vaccination for the age group 18 to 35 from Friday.

The National Coronavirus Command Council has revealed that over nine-million vaccines have been administered in South Africa to date, with over seven-million people partially vaccinated and over four-million fully vaccinated.

In addition, Cabinet is encouraging all unvaccinated people in to get their shot and protect themselves.

 

City of Cape Town announces new transport mayco member

Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato has announced that Hout Bay ward councillor Rob Quintas will be the City of Cape Town's new mayoral committee member for transport.

Plato made the announcement during a council meeting.

The post was left vacant after former mayco member Felicity Purchase was appointed as the council speaker.

Plato himself had filled the vacant post in the interim.

 

WHO concerned that only 2% of Africans are fully vaccinated

World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti has expressed concern that while the rich nations are looking into booster shots of the Covid-19 vaccine, only 2% of the African population is fully vaccinated.

Addressing the media, Moeti said there is hope that bi-lateral talks will assist with the vaccination of at least 30% of the African population by the end of 2021.

She pleaded to wealthier countries, which have vaccinated between 50% and 60% of their populations, to rethink their respective drives for booster shots for now.

She said there is scientific evidence to support the urgent need to help vulnerable countries and warmed that further emergence of variants may undo the good of having a booster vaccine.
