Police to obtain 'warning statement' from Godongwana on sexual assault allegations

Police in Mpumalanga are preparing to obtain a "warning statement" from Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana after a charge of sexual assault was opened against him. 

This development comes after a staff member at a Kruger National Park vacation spot opened a case of sexual assault against Godongwana, claiming that he had assaulted her while she was giving him a massage in his room. 

Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the docket involving an allegation of sexual assault against a "prominent person" was returned to the police by the National Prosecuting Authority, with instructions that a warning statement should be obtained.

Mohlala said earlier that police had taken all statements necessary for the matter.

 

Hawks arrest 8 more people for allegedly instigating July unrest

Eight more people have been arrested as part of a Hawks investigation into the instigators of the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July last year.

More than 300 people died during the violence, which was sparked by the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma who was found to have been in contempt of a Constitutional Court order to appear before the Zondo Commission into State capture.

The latest arrests bring the total number of people arrested by the Hawks to 34. The eight people would appear in the Durban Regional Court today.

According to the Hawks, its investigation has been probing the "alleged instigators in the incitement of public violence through social media and other platforms".

Last week, more than 20 people appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on charges ranging from conspiracy to commit public violence, incitement to commit public violence, and incitement to commit arson.

 

And, Motlanthe says ethical standards important ahead of ANC elective conference

Former president and chairperson of the ANC’s Electoral Committee Kgalema Motlanthe said that as the party heads towards its fifty-fifth national elective conference, moral standards and leaders in good standing are important.  

He was addressing media at Luthuli House in Johannesburg where he tabled the official nomination process and rules for the December 16 conference.

Motlanthe said branches must be properly constituted with both genders represented in committees and added that at least 50% of leaders should be women.

He said the party hoped that members would comply with the end of vote buying and slates, as laid out by the rules.

Motlanthe said the ANC expected the highest ethical and moral standards from its NEC leaders.
