IFP spokesperson urges South Africans to do justice to this year’s national vote

Inkatha Freedom Party national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa says the democracy that South Africa enjoys today was not easily won, so he is urging South Africans to do justice to this year’s national vote ahead of the May 8 election.

In an exclusive interview with Polity, he said the IFP was ready to govern the country based on its manifesto and the track record of the party’s service delivery.

He said the party has presented a practical and pragmatic intervention manifesto and that it was now up to South Africans to make an informed decision.

 

High court says electoral court should hear DA-De Lille dispute

The high court in Cape Town ruled on Friday that the Electoral Court was the more "appropriate forum" to settle a legal dispute between GOOD party leader Patricia De Lille and her former political home the Democratic Alliance.

Justice Robert Martin adjourned an application to have the DA interdicted from its tele-canvassers telling potential voters De Lille was fired as Cape Town mayor.

De Lille approached the court after the DA refused to apologise to her for spreading falsehoods, as per an order of the Electoral Commission of South Africa last week.

 

Cyclone Kenneth leaves a trail of destruction across Mozambique

Homes were destroyed and some areas were cut off and without power in Mozambique on Friday after Cyclone Kenneth made landfall, the second major storm to hit the country in six weeks.

The category four storm battered northern parts of the country with winds gusting up to 280 km per hour, after killing three people on the island nation of Comoros on Thursday.

It was the second strong cyclone to hit the impoverished nation, after Cyclone Idai flattened Mozambique's fourth largest city and caused devastating floods in March, killing more than 1 000 across southern Africa.
