ANC provincial secretaries have until Thursday to compile lists of members tainted by corruption

Embattled African National Congress secretary-general Ace Magashule has written to the party's provincial secretaries to ask them to compile lists of ANC members who are not only criminally charged, but allegedly "implicated in corrupt practices".

Provincial leaders have until the close of business on Thursday to submit their lists to Magashule's office. This comes as the deadline looms for those who are criminally charged to step aside.

It appears that the letter broadens the scope of those who are affected by the ANC's step-aside decision from those who have been criminally charged to all ANC leaders tainted by corruption.

JSC feels 'no pressure' to finalise John Hlophe matter

The Judicial Service Commission says there's "nothing special" about the gross misconduct finding against Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe and it feels "no pressure" to finalise the nearly 13-year-old complaint.

Over the weekend, a JSC Judicial Conduct Tribunal, led by retired Judge Joop Labuschagne, found that Hlophe was guilty of impeachable conduct for trying to sway two Constitutional Court justices to rule in favour of then African National Congress president Jacob Zuma in 2008.

At the time, Zuma was seeking to challenge the legality of search warrants used by the then Scorpions unit to seize 93 000 pages of evidence in his recently revived corruption prosecution.

But, for Hlophe to face impeachment over that finding, the JSC must first endorse the tribunal's report and find him guilty of impeachable conduct, newly appointed JSC spokesperson Dali Mpofu stressed.

Eskom fetches R76-million from sale of buildings, with more assets expected to be sold

Eskom has raised R76.1-million from the sale of two buildings as parts of a strategy to free up cash through the disposal on non-core assets, and more properties are expected to be sold.

The buildings in Kimberley and Johannesburg were sold to the Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation and will be converted into housing blocks, the power utility announced.

Eskom, which is saddled with nearly half a trillion rand in debt, boasts an extensive portfolio of properties plans to raise more than R2-billion from the sale of non-core property.
