President Jacob Zuma yesterday said he would resign with an open heart if the ANC wanted him to resign immediately.

He said there was a few more months left before his task as president ended.

Zuma told thousands of ANC members who had gathered to celebrate his 75th birthday in Kliptown, Soweto that in 2019, he would take off his hat of being the state president but would be a member of the ANC until he died.

 

Former Hawks head Major-General Berning Ntlemeza can petition the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein if he wanted his job back.

It would be his final legal bid to hold on to the post of top cop in the elite police unit.

Yesterday afternoon, the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria dismissed his application for leave to appeal the setting aside of his appointment and ordered him to vacate his office with immediate effect.

 

Thirty thousand people took part in the National Day of Action march in Tshwane yesterday, Gauteng police said.

General Sally de Beer said they estimated that 30 000 people attended using an aerial view and their public policing [unit] which is well trained in making these estimates.

De Beer did however mentioned that eight people were arrested for the looting of a shop following the march.
