Ramaphosa places Ndabeni-Abrahams on special leave for violating lockdown regulations

President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams on special leave for two months, one of which will be unpaid, for violating the regulations of the national lockdown amid the coronavirus  pandemic.

A recent social media post showed her attending a lunch with former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training and Member of Parliament Mdudui Manana.

The ruling ANC has welcomed the decision taken by president Ramaphosa and Ndabeni-Abrahams has since apologised for violating the lockdown regulations.

 

Guinean President Alpha Conde enacts new constitution

Guinean President Alpha Conde has enacted a new constitution following a referendum last month on changes that opponents fear are aimed at extending his time in office.

After months of tensions, Conde enacted the new charter by decree on Monday, the same day he approved a 292-million euro "economic response plan" to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Guinea has 128 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

 

Wuhan ends coronavirus lockdown but concerns remain

Wuhan has begun allowing people to leave for the first time since the central Chinese city was sealed off 76 days ago to contain the coronavirus that first emerged there late last year.

China took the drastic decision to cut off the city of 11-million people on January 23 after it became clear that the virus was highly contagious and potentially deadly.

About 80 percent of the official number of fatalities in China, or about 2 571, were recorded in Wuhan.
