ANC integrity commission says it won’t summon Magashule over corruption claims

The ANC secretary general Ace Magashule will not appear before the party's integrity committee unless its national executive committee decides he should do so.

This is according to integrity committee chairperson George Mashamba who told a news agency that the committee had no powers to summon him to assess the impact that claims made against him had on the governing party.

His comments follow a decision by the NEC to refer its entire list of candidates nominated to serve in the National Assembly and in provincial legislatures to the integrity committee.

 

Gordhan expected to give an update on Eskom and power supply

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and Eskom board chairperson Jabu Mabuza are expected to brief the media on the current status of electricity supply in South Africa today.

Gordhan addressed media two weeks ago as the country was facing rolling blackouts, with millions of people left in the dark due to Stage 4 load-shedding.

The embattled power utility said then that power supply had been further compromised by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.

 

Cosatu wants government research on capping the fuel price released

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has called on government to release its research into a possible cap on the fuel price.

In a media release, Cosatu lamented the "massive fuel price hike" of R1.34 a litre which took effect at midnight on Wednesday.

Cosatu proposed a reduction of 38 percent of the tax rate of fuel, saying government could make up for this by cutting the around 10 percent of the budget lost to corruption as reported by the Auditor General and increasing taxes for the rich.
