The ANC says its confidence in Zuma remains ‘unshaken’

The ANC said its confidence in President Jacob Zuma remained “unshaken” despite the DA’s effort to have corruption charges against him reinstated in court while calling for a no confidence vote in parliament.

ANC National Spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said that today South Africans would once again be subjected to the frivolous antics and theatrics of the DA

Members of parliament will debate the no-confidence motion today and a vote will be held after.

The DA has requested a secret ballot and that Cabinet Ministers be excluded because of a possible “conflict of interest”.

 

Zimbabwe will, from March, roll out an HIV self-testing pilot project to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of self-testing among the populace.

The programme will also be undertaken in Malawi, Zambia and later in South Africa.

The project, the first phase of which would take two years, was aimed at increasing the number of people in the country who knew their HIV status and increasing the effective use of self-testing kits.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care National HIV/AIDS’ co-ordinator, Gertrude Ncube, said the second phase of the programme would see the distribution of more than one million test kits in Zimbabwe.

 

The DA called on President Jacob Zuma to appoint an independent judicial commission of inquiry to investigate all the allegations surrounding the so-called “rogue unit” within the South African Revenue Service.

The opposition party called for the inquiry amid claims that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation – the Hawks – were investigating Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan for his alleged role in setting up the “rogue unit”.

However, Gordhan has denied any wrongdoing.

On Monday, the Hawks said they had merely asked Gordhan questions to help them in their probe and denied that the minister was a suspect. Sars tax chief Tom Moyane is said to be the one behind the charges that have sucked in Gordhan.

On Monday, Zuma said Gordhan’s job as finance minister was not under threat.
