IEC ready to tackle upcoming elections

With less than a week to go before election day, the Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed that everything is in place and ready for South Africa’s sixth national and provincial elections.

The commission said final preparations will be made over the coming weekend for the opening of the country's more than 22 000 voting stations.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele outlined a massive deployment of state security machinery and officers, particularly to the "hotspot" provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and North West, as a pre-stabilisation mechanism ahead of the May 8 general elections in South Africa.

Ramaphosa to receive update on Youth Employment Service

President Cyril Ramaphosa will receive an update on the Youth Employment Service, a business-led collaboration with the government and labour to create work opportunities for young people.

Ramaphosa launched the initiative in March 2018 to place the needs of and opportunities for young people at the centre of inclusive economic growth.

YES partners will provide an update at an event in Sandton where Nedbank will induct 3 315 young people the bank has signed for jobs.

Absence of load-shedding signals positive outlook for

A survey has revealed that the lack of load-shedding in April, resulted in an uptick in the outlook for business conditions in the next six months.

The Absa Purchasing Manager's Index for April, released today, increased by 2.2 points to 47.2 making it the first increase following three months of decline, according to the report.

The PMI measures economic trends specifically in the manufacturing sector. The index may have improved in April, but it is still below the neutral mark of 50.
