Clarity is needed as to which state hospitals in Gauteng are most in need of urgent intervention by the Gauteng Health Department.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has named the following six hospitals in his State of the Province address which he said would get serious attention in the next 12 months:

• Mamelodi
• Sebokeng
• Bheki Mlangeni
• Jubilee
• Tambo Memorial
• Tembisa

At a meeting of the Gauteng Health Committee last week Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku said that the Premier had his list of five worst hospitals, but he had added more to bring the number to ten.

This is confusing as we still don’t know which 10 hospitals are regarded as the worst.

I think that the public should make their own observations about Gauteng’s worst hospitals.

The DA encourages people to post their nominations for worst hospital on the DA Gauteng facebook page and the Hospital Queues facebook page.

I will collate these nominations and submit them to the Health MEC.
