DA wants support for No Confidence Motion against Dlamini-Zuma as State of Disaster extended

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the public to support its Motion of No Confidence in Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, saying it is time that she is fired.

DA Shadow Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Cilliers Brink pointed out that the National State of Disaster has been extended, yet again, to April 15.

Brink argued that the pandemic currently does not fall under the definition of ‘disaster’, adding that scientists in South Africa and abroad have called for lockdown restrictions to be lifted.

The party believes the latest extension gazetted by Dlamini-Zuma is a “power grab” that will allow African National Congress “cronies and comrades” access to Covid funds.

“Yet again, the decision to extend the State of Disaster was done without proper consultation with experts or the President’s Coordinating Council, no explanation to the public and zero accountability to Parliament,” said Brink.

He described Dlamini-Zuma’s role as “irrational dictatorship” that is having a negative effect on jobs and the economy.

The DA says almost 10 000 South Africans have signed its Motion of No Confidence petition.
