DA to inspect Ekurhuleni School of the Deaf following allegations of corruption and sexual assault

1st September 2022

Tomorrow, Friday, 2 September 2022, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Spokesperson for Education, Sergio Isa dos Santos MPL, will conduct an oversight inspection at the Ekurhuleni School of the Deaf.

The purpose of the oversight inspection is to assess the state of learning and teaching at the school, following allegations that approximately R1.8 million has been stolen by the headmaster.

It is alleged that the learners stormed the principal’s office, assaulted him, and vandalized his office.

It is also reported that overnight, boy learners sexually assaulted girl learners at the dormitories.

These are serious and disheartening reports that should not occur in any schools.

The DA will engage with the school management to ascertain whether the allegations are true and find an urgent solution so that these learners can learn in a safe and conducive environment.

Members of the media are invited and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: 2 September 2022

Time: 10:00

Address: 01 Motaung St, Moseleke East, Katlehong, 1432
