DA: Statement by Patricia Mokgohlwa, DA Gauteng spokesperson on Women, on the long-awaited reopening of the Kempton Hospital (20/08/2013)

20th August 2013

The long-awaited reopening of the KPH has been delayed by a further two years and is now only scheduled to take place in 2017. Delays in the reopening of this critical healthcare facility for Gauteng’s East Rand is unacceptable.

In response to my questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Health MEC Hope Papo has indicated that the project is still only in the planning phase (Please reply to this email to request a copy of the reply).

There is no activity on the site nearly six months after the construction and repairs at the Kempton Park Hospital were due to begin and more than four and a half years after Premier Nomvula Mokonyane promised the reopening.

This is yet another one of Premier Nomvula Mokonyane's unfulfilled promises. She is now finishing her term without having delivered on this.

The DA in Gauteng will push the Health Department to accelerate the process of refurbishing and reopening the hospital.

The people of Ekurhuleni cannot afford further delays in the reopening of the Kempton Park Hospital which will provide much needed additional healthcare services to the region’s already overcrowded facilities.
