DA: Statement by Mmusi Maimane, DA National Spokesperson, police seek to have prosecutor appointed on Nkandla case against President Zuma (27/03/2014)

Today, myself and DA Parliamentary Candidate, Glynnis Breytenbach, met with senior police investigating officers assigned to the DA’s Nkandla criminal case against President Jacob Zuma.

This follows my visit to Nkandla last week where I laid eight charges of corruption against President Zuma after the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, found that he had materially benefitted from the R246 million upgrades to his private home.

As a sign of confidence in our case, the Police are seeking the appointment of a prosecutor to the matter, who may even expand the charges against Jacob Zuma beyond those laid by the DA.

The Public Protector’s findings leave no doubt that President Zuma is guilty of a Chapter 2 criminal violation of the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act, as described in section 4 (1) and (2).

We cannot allow for such criminal abuse of the public’s money. President Jacob Zuma must be held to account for his role in this corruption.
