DA questions delay in release of final Zondo Commission report

Democratic Alliance (DA) spokesperson Cilliers Brink said on Friday the court-mandated deadline for the release of volume five of the State Capture Inquiry report threatened to undermine the entire Zondo Commission project.

The report was expected to be submitted to President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday, after the High Court in Pretoria granted the Commission a six-week extension.

Brink revealed that Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said that Ramaphosa has not yet received the Zondo Commission report and that the commission secretariat has not provided a time and date for the delivery of the report

The DA will write to the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture to request reasons for the delay in releasing the report.

“But our primary concern is that if the report has been completed, it must be released to the public without any further delay. The South African public has waited long enough to know the full details of what transpired during the State capture era,” he said.

Polity.org has contacted the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture for comment and it will be added once received.
