DA Mayor to head up Gamagara municipality

The Democratic Alliance (DA) congratulates Cllr Henriette du Plessis on her election as the Mayor of Gamagara municipality. This comes after a Motion of No Confidence (MONC) against the ANC Mayor succeeded in Council today.

Cllr du Plessis was nominated for mayor by the DA and stood against the former ANC Mayor, Edwin Hantise. She won with eight votes to seven in a secret ballot.

The DA thanks the Gamagara Community Forum for their support of Cllr du Plessis.

Henriette has served as a Councillor since January 2015. She is well informed of the growing service delivery challenges within Gamagara municipality, after almost thirty years of mismanagement by the ANC and will work hard to turn the municipality around.

During her acceptance speech, she already gave notice of her intention to sell the mayoral house, scrap the use of the mayoral vehicle and abandon VIP security measures, and to rather dedicate these proceeds towards much needed infrastructure and service delivery needs.

I have full confidence in Mayor du Plessis to bring financial discipline to the embattled Gamagara Municipality and to ensure that municipal resources are directed towards urgently improving service delivery.
