DA Leader John Steenhuisen to visit Kouga Dam and the Northern Areas of Nelson Mandela Bay

7th June 2021

Tomorrow, Monday, 7 June 2021, DA Leader, John Steenhuisen MP, will be launching his national roadshow in the run-up to the local government elections in the Eastern Cape.

The crippling drought and declining dam levels have seen a dry July fast approaching in Nelson Mandela Bay, and Day Zero looming in the Kouga Municipality.

Tomorrow Mr Steenhuisen will be joined by Kouga Executive Mayor, Cllr Horatio Hendricks, DA EC Provincial Chairperson, Andrew Whitfield MP, and Nelson Mandela Bay Campaign Manager, Retief Odendaal MPL, in conducting an oversight inspection at the Kouga Dam.

The delegation will discuss the impact of the dam running dry on Nelson Mandela Bay, Kouga and local farmers, and also plans that are being put in place to mitigate the crisis.

After the conclusion of the oversight inspection the DA Leader will travel to Port Elizabeth where he will attend a town hall meeting in Gelvandale in the Northern Areas.

At the town hall meeting he will be joined by PE Northern Areas Constituency Leader, Yusuf Cassim MPL.

Discussion points will be the drought and crime, with a specific focus on the Firearms Control Amendment Bill.
