The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the election of Geordin Hill-Lewis as mayor of Cape Town, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the city and to continue to implement the party’s mandate of clean and efficient governance and service delivery.

Hill-Lewis was officially sworn in on Thursday, during the City of Cape Town’s first council meeting.

“As Geordin has said many times in his campaign, now is the time to do more, and we have full confidence that he will continue to carry on the incredible work done by former mayor Dan Plato in building local economic growth, bringing investment to the city and delivering services to all Cape Town communities,” said DA leader John Steenhuisen.

He added that under the leadership of the DA, the City of Cape Town had built a reputation of getting things done and getting the basics right.
