Covid-19 TERS Claims For May

Employers are now able to submit Covid-19 TERS relief claims for May. 

Important aspects to bear in mind:

1. Employers have to submit proof of payment to employees in respect of March and April UIF benefits.

2. Despite earlier reports to the contrary, payment in respect of benefits for May can still be made into the employer’s bank account.

3. Do not reflect leave pay or advances/loans to employees in your UIF application. Only indicate payments made in respect of remuneration earned.

4. There are additional administrative requirements and it is important that the guidelines are followed closely.

5. If an employer pays an employee an advance (loan), it is important to get it on record. One way to do this is by means of an acknowledgement of debt. This will help to avoid disputes with employees and could be useful for UIF audit purposes.
