Covid-19: SA's death toll climbs by 8 as cases increase to 1 552 416

South Africa recorded 452 new Covid-19 infections by Monday, 5 April and eight more Covid-19-related deaths, taking the death toll to 52 995.

In a statement, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said that, as of Monday, the country recorded a total of 1 552 416 cases.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded the most active cases with 5 746, followed by the Western Cape with 5 119 and the Northern Cape with 2 806.

The recovery rate is 95% with 1 478 088 recoveries.

To date, 9 979 294 tests have been completed, with 11 091 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, Mkhize added.

Of the deaths, four were recorded in the Free State and four in Gauteng.

"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
