 Covid-19: SA records 566 new infections, 4 more deaths

South Africa has recorded 566 new Covid-19 infections.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Monday, the country recorded 3 704 784 laboratory-confirmed cases.

The NICD said the new cases represented a 3.9% positivity rate.

Four deaths were reported in the past 24 to 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 99 890.

Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 41% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 25%. KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 21% of new infections; North West 4%; Mpumalanga 3%; the Eastern Cape and Free State 2% each; and Limpopo and the Northern Cape 1% each.

As of Monday, Gauteng recorded 1 203 737 cumulative cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 657 437, and the Western Cape with 647 131.

According to the NICD, there were seven new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour cycle.
