South Africa recorded 4 100 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, representing a 10.5% positivity rate.

Thirty-four Covid-19-related deaths were recorded in the last 48 hours, bringing the death toll to 94 651.

Most new cases are from Gauteng (29%), followed by the Western Cape (15%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 13%; Limpopo and Mpumalanga 12% each; the North West 8%; the Free State 5%; the Eastern Cape 4%; and the Northern Cape 2%.

Gauteng recorded 1 170 of the new cases on Thursday, the Western Cape recorded 620 and KwaZulu-Natal recorded 550.

According to a National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) statement, the country has recorded a total of 3 594 499 laboratory-confirmed cases. Gauteng is the most impacted, with 1 164 682 cases in total, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 639 644 cases and the Western Cape with 626 467.

There was an increase of 152 hospital admissions. In total, 5 886 people are in public and private hospitals. Of those, 3 886 are unvaccinated.

South Africa has conducted a total of 22 159 247 tests, including 38 912 in the past 24 hours.

According to the Department of Health, 29 702 542 vaccines have been administered. Of those, 71 695 were administered on Thursday. To date, 16 403 387 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 195 984 doses have been administered.
