 Covid-19: SA records 2 120 new infections, 6 new deaths

South Africa recorded 2 120 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday. Six new Covid-19-related deaths were reported in the last 48 hours, bringing the death toll to 99 932.

According to a National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) statement, the new cases represent a 6.6% positivity rate.

Most of the new cases are from Gauteng (35%), followed by the Western Cape (29%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 17%, the Eastern Cape and North West 5% each, the Free State and Mpumalanga 3% each, Limpopo 2% and the Northern Cape 1%.

Gauteng recorded 741 new cases on Thursday, with Western Cape recording 623 and KwaZulu-Natal 354.

As of Thursday, the country recorded 3 709 209 laboratory-confirmed cases.

Gauteng is the most impacted, with 1 205 491 cases in total, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 658 408 cases and the Western Cape with 648 454.

There has been an increase of 64 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours. There are 2017 people in public and private hospitals.

South Africa has conducted 23 676 087 tests, and 32 294 of those have been carried out in the last 24-hour period.

According to the Department of Health, 33 296 217 vaccines have been administered in total.

To date, 17 403 325 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 894 057 doses have been administered.
