Covid-19: SA records 13 992 new infections and 11 new deaths

South Africa recorded 13 992 new Covid-19 cases on Monday and 11 new deaths, increasing the death toll to 90 148, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

The number of new cases represents a 31% positivity rate, an NCID statement has indicated.

Most of the new cases are from Gauteng (48%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (19%). The Western Cape accounted for 10%; the Free State and North West 5% each; the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga 4% each; Limpopo 2%; and the Northern Cape 1%.

As of Monday, the country recorded a total of 3 180 785 laboratory-confirmed cases.

Gauteng is the most impacted, with 1 069 565 cases in total, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 543 045 and the Western Cape with 537 553.

There was an increase of 422 admissions on Monday. In total, there are 6 198 people in public and private hospitals.

South Africa has conducted 20 283 906 Covid-19 tests to date, and 45 101 of these were carried out on Monday.

According to the Department of Health, 27 188 606 vaccines have been administered. Of those, 91 038 were administered on Monday.

To date, 15 182 668 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children 12 and older, 758 089 doses of the vaccine have been administered.
