Covid-19: SA records 1 102 new cases and 195 new deaths

South Africa recorded 1 102 new Covid-19 infections by Monday, along with 195 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the confirmed death toll to 48 094.

According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Monday, the country recorded a total of 1 492 909 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded the most confirmed active cases with 18 633, followed by the Western Cape with 8 343 and the Free State with 7 434.

The recovery rate is 93%, with 1 391 155 recoveries recorded.

To date, 8 712 844 tests have been completed, with 15 778 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, Mkhize said on Monday night.

Mkhize also reported a further 195 confirmed Covid-19-related deaths, of which 62 were recorded in the Western Cape, 58 in Gauteng, 30 in North West, 25 in the Eastern Cape, 11 in the Free State, six in the Northern Cape and three in KwaZulu-Natal.

This brings the total to 48 094 confirmed deaths."We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
