Covid-19: 4 146 new infections, four new deaths reported

South Africa recorded 4 146 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, which represented an 8.6% positivity rate.

Four new Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 100 355.

Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 53% of the infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 23%.

The Western Cape accounted for 11%; Free State accounted for 4%, while Mpumalanga,  Eastern Cape and North West accounted for 2% each and Limpopo and Northern Cape 1% respectively.

Gauteng recorded 2 177 new cases on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal 960 and the Western Cape 476.

There were 64 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, as of Thursday, the country had recorded 3 780 444 laboratory-confirmed cases.

According to the Department of Health, 34 806 757 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 62 400 were administered on Thursday.
