 Covid-19: 3 962 new infections, 31 new deaths recorded

South Africa recorded 3 962 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infections on Thursday.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Thursday, the country had recorded 3 572 860 laboratory-confirmed cases. There have been 31 new Covid-19 fatalities in the last 48 hours, bringing the death toll to 93 846.

The NICD reported that 3 962 new Covid-19 cases had been identified, representing a 10.6% positivity rate.

Gauteng is the most affected, with 1 158 675 confirmed cases in total, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 638 294, and the Western Cape with 622 799.

Case percentage breakdown:

Gauteng recorded 928 new cases on Thursday, while the Western Cape recording 813, and KwaZulu-Natal 681.

There has been an increase of 135 hospital admissions during the past 24 hours. There are currently 7 059 people admitted to both public and private hospitals.

South Africa has conducted 21 933 255 tests, with 37 484 being carried out in the last 24 hours.

According to the Department of Health, 29 251 262 vaccines have been administered in total. Of those, 82 098 were administered on Thursday.

To date, 16 208 728 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children 12 and older, 1 119 150 vaccines have been administered.
