More than 29-million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in South Africa.

According to the Department of Health, 29 084 975 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 85 885 were administered on Tuesday.

To date, 16 125 558 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 100 037 vaccine doses have been administered.

South Africa recorded 3 658 new confirmed Covid-19 infections on Tuesday.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Tuesday, the country recorded 3 564 578 laboratory-confirmed cases. It said 30 new Covid-19-related deaths were recorded in the previous 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 93 551.

The NICD said the 3 658 new Covid-19 cases identified in South Africa represented a 9.2% positivity rate.

As of Tuesday, Gauteng recorded 1 156 760 confirmed cases, KwaZulu-Natal 636 903 and the Western Cape 621 004.

Most new cases on Tuesday were recorded in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, that each accounted for 22% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 20%. The Eastern Cape accounted for 9%; Limpopo 8%; North West 6%; Free State and Mpumalanga 5% each; and the Northern Cape 2%.

Gauteng recorded 814 new cases on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal 794 and the Western Cape 745.

There were 198 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Tuesday, 7 363 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.

South Africa conducted 21 855 117 cumulative tests, of which 39 654 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
