The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Eastern Cape welcomes the election of the new Troika after the recall of the previous one recently. The amended Troika comprises of Comrade Anele Ntsangani who is the Executive Mayor, Comrade Onke Mgunculu who is the District Council Speaker and Comrade Nanziwe Rulashe who is the Chief Whip of the District Council correspondingly.

COSATU admires the courage and efforts of the ANC in stabilising the troubled municipality. We have witnessed challenges ranging from hostility towards labour unions to administrative shortcomings at this municipality.

We hope that the new Troika will make tangible changes needed to the municipality. Its ability to collaborate with other councillors and the administrative arm will harmonise relations with labour unions and improve service delivery.

The new Troika has a huge responsibility of restoring the image and improving the finances of the Amathole District Municipality. This can only be realised by collaborating with all stakeholders within the district.
