The Congress of South Africa Trade Unions in the Eastern Cape pays its last respect to the revolutionary struggle stalwart Comrade Nombulelo April who passed away. We send our sincere deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the entire April family. We wish them courage, comfort, and strength during this difficult and trying moment of the sad loss.

Comrade Nombulelo April was a Shop Steward of our affiliate SAMWU in the early 1990s at the time of her employment at Butterworth Municipality. She distinguished herself as a central figure in the recruitment of workers across all sectors to COSATU unions. She played a pivotal role in highlighting the plight of women in a patriarchal society. She fearlessly led the gender struggle, a struggle within the struggle.

Comrade Nombulelo April was a humble, selfless devoted, and disciplined leader who possessed political clarity. She understood that there is no separation between workplace struggle and the broader liberation struggle. The positions she occupied in the ANC bear testimony to this fact. She served in ANC Provincial Centenary Task Team, ANC Provincial Integrity Committee, ANC Veterans League PEC, and ANC Veterans League NEC. She was a towering figure that maintained her humility until the end. She left giant footprints in our liberation struggle,

We shall miss her dearly. May her soul rest in Peace!
