COSATU in Gauteng held a special PEC on 10th of July 2019. Amongst the responsibilities of the Special PEC was the filling of the position of the Provincial Secretary after it was left vacant by Comrade Dumisani Dakile, who has been deployed to the 6th Administration Provincial Legislature. We also filled the vacancy left by the Provincial Treasure, Comrade Nomsa Mashaba, who has since being appointed by SACTWU as an organiser.

The following comrades were elected by the PEC;

·         Provincial Secretary  - Comrade Louisah Modikwe; and

·         Provincial Treasure – Comrade Boitumelo Tlholo.

The PEC of Gauteng has for the first time in history of the federation elected a woman as a Provincial Secretary, following the election of the first woman President at the 13th National Congress.

The PEC has reflected on the e-tolls and appreciated the intervention by the President regarding the Twitter war on e-tolls by those deployed in government. We are confident that a workable solution will be reached to deal with this policy nightmare. Whilst the PEC appreciates that a report on this matter will be submitted to the President in August 2019, the PEC concluded that a campaign against the e-tolls should continue, focusing on lunchtime demonstrations at the National Treasury in Tshwane.
