The motions of no confidence that passed in council today, have nothing to do with service delivery and everything to do with narrow self-interest. A Coalition of Corruption (ANC/PA/EFF/PBI) has been cobbled together to loot and steal whatever might be left after the previous ANC government looted our town.
These motions served today clearly demonstrate that a vote for any party other than the DA is a vote for the ANC. Anyone who did not vote DA, effectively voted ANC.
At the local government election in November 2021, the DA won the most seats, but not a majority. Since then, it has governed in coalition.
The DA-led government has worked tirelessly since November to achieve the following successes:
• R10 million, allocated to upgrade and maintain roads.
• Invested in new technology to tackle crime
• R2.5 million allocated for the electrification of informal settlements
• Homeless shelter plans and over 20 NGOs assisted
• Made funding provision to develop a water and sewer masterplan to determine the
state of our current infrastructure as well as future development needs.
• Phase 3 of the Electrical Workshop substation upgrade project was completed. The
budget for this phase amounted to R7.1 million of a total project cost of R16 million.
• New service delivery fleet to the value of over R6.4 million.
• Supporting SMME development using local contractors for grass-cutting and other
Ward-based work.
• Stabilized local tourism by managing the Knysna Tourism Information office in-house.
• Requested investigation into the viability of a Waste to Energy Project for Knysna.
We have shown that we care about the people of Knysna and we will continue to do so. The DA will now form a formidable opposition and hold the Coalition of Corruption to account.
