Census 2022: DA urges WC residents to get counted as final deadline looms

25th May 2022

Residents of the Western Cape have one more week to get counted in the 2022 Census. The DA urges all residents who have yet to be counted, to do so before the final 31 May deadline next week.

The Western Cape Provincial Treasury has already projected that the province could lose billions of rands in budgetary funding if the Western Cape remains undercounted. This has serious implications for the delivery of crucial services such as health, education and social relief.

In recent years, the Western Cape has been short-changed due to outdated data from the 2011 Census. In order to avoid being short-changed again, we need to ensure that as many residents as possible are counted to ensure that the province receives its fair share of resources and funding from the national budget.

The public is reminded that they do not need to wait on StatsSA to come to their doors to be counted. By visiting the Get Counted website (https://getcounted.statssa.gov.za/#!/home) residents of the Western Cape can get counted in a matter of minutes.

We call on the public to encourage their families, neighbours and friends to use this last week to ensure that every household in the Western Cape is counted in the 2022 Census.
