Archbishop Thabo Makgoba on Thursday wished South Africans well for the Easter Holidays and urged citizens to heed government’s call to stay home during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

In an exclusive interview with Polity he gave his support for President Cyril Ramaphosa and for all those working hard to fight the virus in the country.

“Even in the darkest moment, morning will dawn, as the country will be celebrating Easter holidays at home for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic. In our Christian world, and dare I say in the world of faith we do not have an option but to say even in this darkest moment, morning will dawn. Night does not last forever. Easter morning and the resurrection morning will dawn,” said the Archbishop.

He reiterated government’s call and ask South Africans to stay at home, regularly wash their hands and to keep physical distance to help flatten the curve.

“I encourage you to support the government’s screening, testing, tracing and treatment efforts even as we feed the destitute, even as we cry for equality and work for justice,” he highlighted.
