ANC tops 2m mark, DA at 1m as SA vote capturing continues

The African National Congress (ANC) has breached the two million mark, as around four million votes had been captured on the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) results system by 10am on Thursday morning.

At the same time, the Democratic Alliance (DA) had hit one million votes as it solidifies its position as the official opposition following the national elections on Wednesday.

The results board reflects some 334,095 votes going to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), while the Freedom Front Plus looked set to grab more seats in the National Assembly with 122,348 so far.

The Inkatha Freedom Party trailed with 64,892 votes, but this number could see a surge as vote capturing in the party's traditional stronghold, KwaZulu-Natal, is progressing slower than other provinces.

The ACDP has garnered 42,781 votes and former DA strongwoman Patricia De Lille's GOOD looked almost assured of at least one seat in the National Assembly with 29,039 votes.
