African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa revealed on Monday that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has resolved to ask suspended secretary-general Ace Magashule to apologise for seeking to suspend Ramaphosa.

The party’s National Working Committee has taken a resolution to ask party members, including Magashule, facing charges of corruption to step aside from their duties.

In a letter written by Magashule last week he called for Ramaphosa’s suspension.

Magashule has been asked to apologise, failing which he will face a disciplinary hearing.

Ramaphosa updated the media on the ANC’s NEC meeting, held over the weekend, and confirmed that those asked to step aside may not carry out the duties of their office, represent the organisation publicly, make public announcements on organisational matters or engage in the mobilisation of ANC structures.

Meanwhile, suspended ANC members will be allowed remuneration as per the guidelines of the Labour Relations Act and their suspension will be reviewed after six months.

ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte will take over the duties of ANC secretary-general.

Members of the NEC have condemned threats made against Duarte and some employees at Luthuli House.

Ramaphosa said death threats have also been directed at an NEC member.
