ANC fails to pass its own budget in KwaDukuza Municipality

25th May 2022

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has noted that the ANC governed KwaDukuza Municipality has been unable to pass the 2022/2023 budget after they failed to achieve a majority of councillors to support it in today's council meeting.

This is a major development, as the council was being run in a coalition between the African National Congress (ANC) and the African Independent Congress (AIC).

It is clear from today's vote, that the AIC is unwilling to support the ANC’s continued mismanagement of the municipality, which the DA agrees with.

From the outset, we have made it known to the ANC that the DA cannot support a budget that prioritizes corruption over service delivery. We have also been very clear that the tariff increases being budgeted for are simply unaffordable for many residents.
