The DA in the Northern Cape will report an apparent ongoing and planned vandalism of the Nico Bekker Intermediary School Hostel to the HAWKS.

The DA is asking for an urgent investigation into the principal and School Governing Body (SGB) members who are allegedly responsible for the theft of state owned property.

Community members have allegedly witnessed the principal and SGB members pocket and carry away furniture from this building and leaving it at the mercy of vandals and other criminal elements (see pictures here, here and here). 

The hostel was lifted off the ground almost seven years ago and functioned as its intended purpose until three years ago, when apparent vandals wreaked havoc by stealing beds, mattresses, stoves, tables, chairs, kitchen utensils and various other items.

It is alleged that the thieves planned to leave the hostel unsupervised in their attempt to evade being caught.

The DA will forward all information to the HAWKS for an urgent investigation into this blatant daylight robbery and we will submit detailed questions to the Portfolio Committee of Roads and Public Works to ascertain how much money was spent on the building, which has now become yet another white elephant.
