Since the commencement of the controversial contract between Agridelight Training and Consulting and the Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) in 2017, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West has been consistently vocal about the irregularities surrounding the three-year contract worth over R600 million.

Today, Agridelight owner, Derrek Montshwe, is expected to present a full report to the Agriculture and Rural Development Portfolio Committee, possibly disclosing details of dubious transactions such as the 24 Nguni cattle donated to former President Zuma, assisting former premier Supra Mahumapelo with the acquisition of two McDonald’s fast food restaurants in Mafikeng and also the R500 000 cosmetic nose job gifted to former MEC of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ), Manketsi Tlhape.

In light of such serious allegations, it is shocking that no arrests have been made to date since the Hawks embarked on an investigation in 2018. The fact that both Supra Mahumapelo and Manketsi Tlhape are now serving as Members of National Parliament, is a clear indication of the ANC’s aversion to justice and clean governance.

It is a disgrace that, after emerging farmers have been directly impacted by the alleged maladministration and corruption, these individuals have been rewarded top positions within legislative structures.

The DA will continue to fight for the arrest of those found guilty of corrupt and fraudulent activities.
