SADTU stalwart to launch a book on Gandhi, Luthuli and Mandela

29th November 2017

The first National Treasurer of the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU), Harold Samuel will launch a book on South Africa’s greatest icons and proponents of non-violence: Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Albert Luthuli and Nelson Mandela.

Entitled Gandhi-Luthuli-Mandela – The struggle for non-violence in South Africa, the book is looking at the influences these men had on each other and their conceptions of non-violence.

It not necessarily a biography of these great icons but is filling some gaps from their autobiographies.

The author Harold Samuel is a retired teacher and principal.

He was a teacher union activist during the apartheid era and was instrumental in bringing together racially divided teacher unions and associations which led to the formation of SADTU in 1990.

Cde Samuel is currently serving as chairman of SADTU Investment Trust.

The launch will take place as follows:
Date: Friday, 1 December, 2017
Venue: Durban Cultural and Documentation Centre, Cnr Epsom Road and Derby Street, Greyville, Durban.
Time: 17h00
