The Ad Hoc Joint Committee on Flood Disaster Relief and Recovery today received a briefing from the Auditor-General of South Africa, Ms Tsakani Maluleke, on the real-time disaster audit plan focusing on the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces.

The committee welcomed the comprehensive briefing on the audit plan model, in which the Auditor-General indicated that teams based in each province will be used to conduct the real-time audit. These teams will be assisted by specialists in areas such as information systems management, forensics and fraud detection, as well as other experts that understand the infrastructure space better than a typical financial auditor.

The Auditor-General also informed the committee that it plans to produce the first report in August 2022. The committee welcomed the fact that the Auditor-General always makes herself available to answer Parliament’s briefing requests and looks forward to the first report.
