ActionSA candidate election system goes live

ActionSA’s candidate election system is officially live, until 27 June, to allow residents across Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni to vote for their preferred candidates for mayor and ward councillor, as the local government elections is set to take place in October.

The party, led by Herman Mashaba, who is also a candidate in Johannesburg, says the voting process allows citizens to reclaim their political power, by giving them the opportunity to directly elect the mayoral and ward councillor candidates they want to represent ActionSA on the ballot paper in the upcoming local government elections.

To date over 5 200 prospective candidates have registered on the system and over 134 000 prospective voters have registered to participate in the candidate elections.

The party’s national chairperson Michael Beaumont says ActionSA believes that its Candidate Election System is the first step toward restoring real political power to South Africans.

He says the candidates have emerged from the party’s transparent candidate nomination process.

“Whilst all our mayoral and ward councillor candidates may be competing for votes, all of our candidates are united in their resolve to ensure that the ANC [African National Congress] is removed from power and quality services are delivered to residents,” said Beaumont.

Beaumont says South Africans are fed up with a political system that has resulted in the selection of compromised candidates by political parties.
